Field Trips
Reservation Policies:
- Please make field trip reservations at least two weeks prior to the date of your choosing.
- Please have alternate date and bus availability information before calling.
- The following information is required of all school groups:
- Name of the school
- Leader’s name
- Contact phone number
- Address
- Grade level of students
- Number of students and chaperones (including teachers) attending
- Keiki Zoo (Petting Zoo) times are first come, first serve and are limited to groups of no more than 25 every 15 minutes. Time slots are 30 minutes each. PLEASE NOTE: Keiki Zoo times are subject to change or cancellation without prior notice due to staffing and/or animal emergencies.
- We DO NOT have facilities for storing lunches. We suggest placing lunches in a box/cooler and storing them on one of our picnic tables accompanied by one of your chaperones, renting double strollers ($7 each) from our gift shop to transport the lunches, bringing in wagons to pull lunches, or have the students carry their lunches with them.
- Admission fees for Hawaii State schools are as follows:
Pre school and Kindergarten (ages 5 and under) FREE Grades 1st-6th (ages 6-12) $0.50 Grades 7th-college (ages 13 and above) $1.00 Chaperones (adults and teachers) $1.00 Special Education Students/Adults $0.50 Special Education Teachers/Assistants $1.00 - Please make all entrance fees payable to "The City and County of Honolulu"
- Fees are payable by cash, check, or charge (Visa and MasterCard only)
- Have final headcount ready for the cashier at time of payment
- No refunds will be given for checks written over the amount owed at time of entrance
- Purchase Orders and personal checks are not accepted

African Savanna Safari
Hawaii Science Standard: Unity and Diversity, Doing Scientific Inquiry, Living the Values, Interdependence
Did you know that our African Savanna was designed to represent different ecosystems in Africa? Your tour guide will take you on a safari to learn fun facts about animals who inhabit Africa and the Honolulu Zoo. Our staff will showcase the wonders of hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, zebras, ostriches, lions, hyenas, and many others.
Mammals of the Honolulu Zoo
Hawaii Science Standard: Unity and Diversity, Interdependence
What do all mammals have in common? While touring we will share some fun facts about our mammalian cousins residing in the Honolulu Zoo.
Reptiles of the Honolulu Zoo
Hawaii Science Standard: Unity and Diversity, Interdependence
Some slither, some climb, and some even run on two legs, but what do all reptiles have in common? Find out as we tour and compare tortoises to turtles, and alligators to crocodiles while finding out what unites them into one group.
Guided Tour Policies:
- Tours are booked on a first call, first reserved basis. Please make reservations at least three weeks in advance.
- Please have alternate date and bus availability information before calling.
- Programs are $75 for the first 25 participants, $3 per additional person (fees apply to students and chaperones, teachers are FREE). Checks must be presented to your guide PRIOR to the start of your tour. Checks are payable to "THE HONOLULU ZOO SOCIETY"
- We can often have 2 programs run simultaneously, if we have adequate staff and no other programs scheduled.
- We can usually accommodate a maximum of 100 students on any given day.
- Tour times are based on staff availability and the arrival and departure times of your group.
- Your student’s safety is important to us at the Honolulu Zoo. For that reason we require a minimum ratio of one adult per 10 students, regardless of age group. We also require shoes to be worn at all times while on Zoo grounds.
MINI TOURS
We also offer the following programs to schools:
- Behind the Scenes with a Mini Tour: Animals are viewed from non-public areas. Possible choices are a service road walk, a peak at our Tiger’s sleeping quarters, or a visit to our Vet Clinic or Commissary.
- Duration – 45 to 60 minutes
- Prices - $150 for the first 30 participants, $5 for each additional person. Teachers are FREE. 60 participants maximum.
- Reservations must be made at least two weeks in advance
- Animal Encounter with a Mini Tour: Animals are viewed from non-public areas. Possible encounters include Chimpanzee enrichment, Giraffe meet and greet, Elephant meet and greet and Giant Tortoise meet and greet.
- Duration – 45 to 60 minutes
- Prices - $300 for the first 30 participants, $10 for each additional person. Teachers are FREE. 60 participants maximum.
- Reservations must be made at least two weeks in advance
- Preschool Class "Zoo to You" at the Zoo: A sit down Outreach program for our youngest guests at the Discovery Center Barn, located behind the Keiki Zoo. You may choose from any published Outreach program the Zoo Society offers.
- Duration – 30 to 45 minutes
- Age – 3 to 5 years
- Prices - $95 per program, maximum of three programs per day. Teachers are FREE. 45 participants maximum.
- Reservations must be made at least two weeks in advance
- PARTICIPANTS INCLUDE STUDENTS AND CHAPERONES.
- THE "Behind the Scenes" AND "Animal Encounter" PROGRAMS ARE SUBJECT TO KEEPER AVAILABILITY AND ANIMAL HEALTH.
