The Honolulu Zoological Society is proud to offer this exciting opportunity to our community. Our goal is to foster an appreciation of our living world through hands on bio-fact* study. By bringing our touchable models and natural bio-facts into your classroom, we cultivate personal connections to animals and the environment.

Overview
Each program is approximately 45 minutes long and has been designed by
educators with developmental appropriateness and state and national standards in
mind. Our programs are designed for a variety of grade levels and themes so you
are sure to find one that will meet your students’ needs. You will feel
confident that your students have gained valuable experience without
compromising your curriculum goals. We can do a presentation for one class or a
whole grade level.
WE CANNOT BRING LIVE ANIMALS due to our status as a federal quarantine station.
*Our collection of skulls are not real. They are plaster casts. All of our fur, feathers and skins are genuine artifacts.

Costs and Policies
Outreaches are booked on a first call, first reserved basis and are scheduled at least 3 weeks in advance. Please have alternate dates available before calling. Programs are $95 for a maximum of 45 students. No more than 3 programs per day can be scheduled, and each program is different. Each Program is 45 minutes with 15 minutes between consecutive programs. Auditorium/large groups are $450. Payment will be accepted in the form of a school or personal check or cash on the day of visit. Make checks payable to the Honolulu Zoo Society.

Hawaii Science Standard: Living the Values, Sustainability, Interdependence, Science, Technology, and Society, Unifying concepts
Get an overview of why island ecosystems are so special. From giant tortoises and enormous geese islands give birth to animals that are found no where else. We will focus on the unique animals and ecosystems of tropical islands including Hawaii, the Galapagos, and Sumatra including cameos by figurehead species including the Nene, Galapagos Tortoise, and the Orangutan.

Animals are in danger of becoming extinct all over the world. Find out some of the top reasons and experience our suitcase for survival containing contraband animal products. Learn what you can do individually, locally, and globally to save our endangered species.

Hawaii Science Standard: Sustainability, Interdependence, and Unifying concepts
Invasive Species are a strong threat to Hawaii’s unique and fragile ecosystem. Through a grant from the Hawaii Invasive Species Council, the Honolulu Zoo Society is pleased to present a new outreach experience directly to your classrooms. Give your student the knowledge they need to make a difference. Your students will learn which invasive species are the most dangerous, how the species affects Hawaii, how to identify the species, and what they can do to help. Additional information about ways your students can make a difference is also included with your resource packets. Title I schools please contact us for a scholarship application. (This program begins April 3rd.)

Stories: Animals and Folktales of Africa
for Preschool & Kindergarten
Hawaii Science Standard: Value Science, Modeling, Open Mindedness, Unity and Diversity
Hawaii Language Arts Standard: Comprehensions Processes, Communication Processes
Story telling and hands-on experiences will combine to bring the excitement of reading and the wonder of the savanna to your classroom. Using their five senses to explore our bio-facts will allow young students to connect to stories in new ways that will increase their interest in reading.

Speaker for Junior High and High School Career Day Events
Most kids want to be a zookeeper at some point in their lives. But did you know that there are opportunities waiting at the zoo to fill nearly any interests and talent? From educators to horticulturalists, plumbers to office assistants, we cover a wide variety of zoo careers and the foundations needed to fulfill their dreams.
This program is offered free as a service to our community, but dates are limited so please reserve early!
